Amy Winehouse was a British singer and songwriter with a style and personality that clashed with other women in UK music at the time. Blake Fielder-Civil started out as a charming video producer who Amy fell in love with and later became her ultimate muse. It was the inspiration behind the album's best-known songs Back to black and finally the two got married. The film captures their strong and enduring romance, and how their relationship was marked by the presence of drugs, violence and media scrutiny.


Jack O'Connell he plays the character in the biopic. The British actor began his screen career in his teens as part of the cast of the teen drama skins. Since then, he has starred in TV shows like Without God (he even earned a Critics Choice Award nomination for his performance) and in independent films like Starred Up. He received critical acclaim for playing another real-life character, war hero Louis Zamperini Angelina Jolie-directed uninterrupted.

In preparation for playing Fielder-Civil, O'Connell reached out to Winehouse's ex-husband. The latter shared in an interview with Good Morning Britain that the actor wanted to meet with him “not asking for any notes or anything, just out of respect.”

Mitch Winehouse is Amy's father, who was a taxi driver before his daughter rose to fame. Initially not as present in her life growing up, she began to have a closer relationship with the singer when she became a signed artist. From then on, Mitch played an ever-present role in managing Amy's career and trying to find support for her during her trials with drugs and alcohol.

Eddie Marsan portrays the character on the big screen and has been in a long list of productions. With more than 70 films under his belt, the actor is mostly known for his roles in Happy-Go-Lucky in the television series Ray Donovan. Marsan recently starred in the Netflix thriller Fair play and to the historical drama on Apple TV +, Franklin. In an interview with The Guardian to promote the Amy Winehouse biopic, the actor shared more about what led him to play the artist's father:


“A friend of mine worked with Amy in the music industry and knew him. I said, 'What do you think of Mitch?' He said, 'I liked the man. I saw him as a loving father who had a daughter who was an addict and at the same time the most famous woman in the world. She was just a taxi driver trying to make the best of it, I would never have made this movie if I sanitized – or demonized – Mitch Not even my way of “approaching life is more complex.”

Nick Schymansky was Amy Winehouse's manager and helped her get a record deal early in her music career. The two were close, and he was a fundamental person in her path as an artist. However, they did not see eye to eye when it came to Amy's sense of professionalism and how she handled her substance abuse. In the film, he becomes one of the few people who pressures the singer to go to rehab and take care of her well-being.

As previously mentioned, the British icon's father was not as present when she was growing up and her mother practically raised Amy alone. In the film, the character plays a minor role in the story, eluding to the fact that she wasn't as active in Amy's life as Mitch was once he rose to fame. However, as fans well know, he gives his daughter a hug on stage after her Grammy win, and that also happens in the movie.


Juliet Cowan is Janis Winehouse Back to blackand prior to this acting credit, he often starred in British sitcoms such as EastEnders i Live again. He previously shared the screen with O'Connell skins and with Buchanan inside the power.
