Canva Revamps Platform and Editing Experience; New Affinity Apps, Canva Enterprise Launched

Canva, the popular online design platform, announced several new features and a new enterprise-focused subscription on Thursday at its first international Canva Create event in Los Angeles. The platform unveiled its biggest redesign in more than a decade, including a new homepage and editing experience for all users. In addition, the company also introduced a new Canva Enterprise subscription aimed at large organizations. The design platform also released multiple new artificial intelligence (AI)-based features within Magic Studio and Visual Suite.

One of the main talking points at the event was Canva's decision to revamp its platform, including its homepage and editing suite. The company says the new user interface is designed to speed up workflows and improve workplace productivity, and highlighted the following changes coming to the service.

  • A new contextual editing toolbar with access to the one-click background remover and Magic Studio AI tools on the front end
  • A new customizable homepage where users can prefer branded layouts, folders and templates
  • Organizations can pin company or team content to the top of the home page
  • An improved search interface with various filters
  • Easier navigation to allow teams to move between projects and access assets and resources

“We're excited to introduce a refreshed Canva experience and a suite of new products to empower all organizations to design. As demand for visual content increases, navigating organizational complexity is harder than ever. We've democratized the design ecosystem in our first decade, and now we look forward to unifying the fragmented ecosystems of design, AI and workflow tools for all organizations in our second decade,” said Melanie Perkins, CEO and co-founder of Canva in a statement prepared .

Canva says the new homepage and editing toolbar will be made available to the first million users who can find a secret portal hidden on the Canva homepage. For everyone else, the redesigned platform will be available in August.

Canva Enterprise was also announced as a new subscription service aimed at large organizations that have complex brand management, administration, reporting and security requirements. Canva claims it will allow businesses to create large amounts of designs and templates, as well as tools to collaborate internally at scale. In addition, it also includes administration tools to protect brand assets. Some of its features include:

  • Scalable cloud storage to provide enough space to store designs and to provide secure access to an organization's employees
  • One centralized account with consolidated design, content production, collaboration and AI tools to manage your subscription with ease
  • Security tools like Canva Shield, SSO, SCIM and MFA to keep your organization's data safe

Canva Magic Studio has new AI features

Noting that Magic Studio has been used more than 6.5 billion times since its launch in October 2023, Canva unveiled six new features for its AI-powered editing suite at Thursday's event.

  • Magic Media – is an AI-powered text-to-image generator capable of creating graphics, icons, and illustrations.
  • Design Magic: Can generate high-quality presentations
  • Resize and Magic Switch: You can convert layouts to any custom document with a text message
  • A styling and layout tool to apply branding colors and templates to an entire design with a single click
  • A photo editor enhanced with artificial intelligence
  • A featured feature that trims and selects aesthetic clips from long videos
  • Voice Enhancer: Enhances audio and reduces background noise in videos

Improvements to Canva Visual Suite

Canva has also introduced several new features to the Visual Suite. Users can now track changes and collaborate on previous edits, have access to asset libraries and templates approved by Amazon, Google and Meta ads, an auto-fill feature that allows businesses import data from third-party platforms such as Salesforce and MLS (Multiple Listing). Service) and Bulk Create which allows users to upload a CSV or Excel file to quickly update images, text and graphics in multiple layouts.

Extending its product to meet the needs of the workplace, Canva introduced a range of customized tools called work kits for different teams, including marketing, HR, sales and creative departments. Work kits can be customized and branded with Canva's branding kit.

Canva and Affinity courses

The company also introduced Canva Courses, which offers interactive courses to help users learn and improve their design skills in formats such as presentations, documents and videos. Canva course progress can also be managed from a central dashboard.

Affinity, a full-stack desktop design application recently acquired by Canva, released a new version of the platform with new features such as variable font support, stroke width tool, and support for ARM64 chipsets. The company also announced that eligible teachers, schools and nonprofits can sign up for a waiting list to access Affinity for free. The company will provide free licenses to eligible candidates in the coming months.
