Google Photos to Reportedly Get New Feature That Turns Videos Into Cinematic Clips

Google Photos for Android may soon introduce a new feature that will allow users to create a “cinematic moment” from videos saved on their devices, according to a recent report. The app currently has a feature called Cinematic Photos that allows users to convert flat images into 3D photos. There is speculation that the rumored Cinematic Moment feature could work along the same lines as Cinematic Photos, but with videos instead of photos.

In collaboration with leaker Assemble Debug, the Android Authority, in a report, found the APK disassembly feature of the Google Photos app for Android, version 6.84.0.634885033. The app's lines of code suggest a new video tool that automatically selects a part of the chosen video and applies a slow-motion effect, creating a kind of cinematic moment.

Unlike Cinematic Photos where users can manually select an image and apply the effect, the process would reportedly be automatic and users would not be able to manually generate a Cinematic Moment. However, it seems possible that Google will add this feature at a later date.

The report further suggests that there is no information on how it might work or its release timeline. The features discovered during the APK teardowns are usually for testing purposes only and reportedly may not make it to the public version of the Google Photos app for Android smartphones.

This development follows speculation that Google might be planning to roll out the artificial intelligence (AI) editing features that currently exist in its Pixel 8 series to older Pixel devices as well. Reports suggest that features like Magic Editor are coming to devices like Google Pixel 6 and Pixel 7.
