Melissa Barrera Shares Big Career Goals After Leaving ‘Scream’

Melissa Barrera is ready to leave her past in the past and continue the career that it has been growing for over a decade. The actress recently spoke with Collider's Perri Nemiroff during a Nemiroff delivery Ladies' night and shared his vision for the future, specifically since he broke up Shout franchise at the end of last year. For those who don't know, Spyglass Media, the studio behind it Created by Wes Craven franchise, cut ties with Barrera at the end of 2023 after the actress shared a pro-Palestinian stance on her social media account. In a move worthy of applause, the In the Heights actress he stood by his beliefs and supported himself in another publication. Soon, Barrera will celebrate his latest project, Abigaila horror film that sees her retool Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, the filmmakers behind it Shout (2022) i Call VI, showing that he is already taking big steps forward.

During his chat with Nemiroff, Barrera said his goal for the next chapter of his life was simple:

I just keep putting myself out there. Without fear. Because I'm here to stay
. [Laughs] So I'm still auditioning, I still have a lot of things I want to do. I have many dreams that I want to fulfill, many different films that I want to do.”

With his star on the rise, Barrera added that he hoped his time in front of the camera would translate into more behind-the-scenes opportunities, as he shared, “I want to produce, I want to direct so there are so many things I can occupy myself with.” Leaving what happened to the people of spy in the rearview mirror, Barrera is ready to go full steam ahead and take the negative energy off her shoulder. “Focusing on something that happened and that already happened and it's not… It's nothing… There are more important things going on in the world and that's, you know, it was just a little hiccup. I'm good.”

Along with Abigail, Barrera is also attached to two other films awaiting their theatrical releases. and so I feel very, very lucky and fortunate to have a great team around me.
My publicists have been incredible in the last six months of my life
and it's been amazing to have that support, because it's important.
It can be an opportunity for your mental health
