Original Lyrics to Katy Perry’s “Teenage Dream” Will Blow Your Mind

Katy Perrythe team of It was initially hot and cold about “Teenage Dream.”

Bonnie McKeewho co-wrote the 2010 hit with the singer, revealed that the song went through a few different lyrical interpretations before landing on the chorus we know today.

“It was the hardest thing to write,” Bonnie explained during a May 6 episode The DaddyMommy Show podcast “We wrote like five different versions.”

The songwriter, who is credited on the track alongside Katy, Max Martin and producers Benny Blanco i Dr. Luke—remembered the first version of the hook that began with the lines: “You make me feel like I'm born again / All new, come on, Peter Pan.”

Of course, this concept did not stick. In fact, after deciding that those lyrics were “too young” and “needed to be sexier,” they went back to the drawing board and worked on a few more ideas, including one called “Try Me On.”

“It was all kinds of fashion references,” Bonnie explained. “Although it's a really cool idea and worth writing, it felt a little country, and the song was a little more serious.”
