22-fight UFC veteran ignores retirement talk in shock statement after 10th consecutive MMA loss

Veteran fighter Melvin Guillard expressed surprising contentment following his most recent mixed martial arts defeat.

Known as ‘The Young Assassin’, Guillard had a significant 22-fight tenure in the UFC, facing notable opponents such as Donald ‘Cowboy’ Cerrone, Jim Miller, Jeremy Stephens, and Nate Diaz during his prime.

The former lightweight contender`s time with the UFC ended after a loss to Michael Johnson in March 2014.

Since leaving the promotion, his performance has declined significantly, with only one MMA win amidst a string of losses that has led many fans to call for his retirement.

Guillard`s Reaction to His Latest Defeat

On Saturday night, Melvin Guillard suffered his tenth consecutive mixed martial arts loss in a dominant performance by his opponent.

Josiah Harrell, a fighter who had a brief UFC signing halted due to the need for brain surgery, maintained his perfect 9-0 record with an seemingly effortless victory in the Ohio Combat League 38 main event.

Footage circulated showing Harrell taking Guillard down, landing on his head, and then securing a choke to finish the fight.

Following this tenth straight defeat, many fans expressed hope that the 42-year-old fighter would finally decide to retire. However, Guillard`s recent comments suggest otherwise.

On Sunday, Guillard posted a surprisingly positive message on his Instagram story.

“Still a good week even with the outcome,” he wrote.

“Mindset and weight is where it’s supposed to be.”

What’s next for Melvin Guillard?

While his recent MMA record is poor, Melvin Guillard is set to compete again soon, though not in mixed martial arts.

In July, he is scheduled for a kickboxing match against 50-year-old Patrick Hutton.

Hutton`s MMA record stands at 5-12, suggesting he might be a favorable opponent for the former UFC fighter.

This upcoming bout at Hybrid FC 2 will determine if Guillard can secure his first victory in approximately eight years.
