Amazon on Tuesday announced the wider availability of its latest artificial intelligence (AI) assistant for businesses, Amazon Q. The e-commerce giant first announced its business-focused chatbot in November 2023, promising both generative and analytical assistance based on the company's internal data. Amazon later made the AI tool available to a limited number of users. Now, the company has made it generally available and added some new features. Notably, businesses will now get two separate chatbots—Amazon Q Developer and Amazon Q Business—for separate sets of tasks.

In a newsroom release, Amazon's cloud computing platform Amazon Web Services (AWS) announced that Amazon Q Developer and Business chatbots are now available for businesses. This will be available to customers using AWS services. The AI bot trains and learns from business data and workflows and can help with more tasks related to coding and business analytics.

Amazon Q Developer is designed as an assistant for software developers and can help them “perform tedious and repetitive tasks” such as coding, testing, updating applications, troubleshooting, security scanning and patching, as well as such as optimizing AWS resources. The company says the time saved can be used by professionals to develop unique end-user experiences and deploy them faster.

For analytical help, the tech giant makes available its Amazon Q Business. This tool is designed to accept and process queries and requests in natural language. Based on knowledge of the company's database stored on AWS servers, it can answer questions, generate summaries and content, write reports, and provide data-driven analysis. Amazon Q also adds to Amazon QuickSight, AWS' unified Business Intelligence service for the cloud.

Apart from these, Amazon also has another feature which is not yet available for all users. Called Amazon Q Apps, it allows employees to build AI-powered applications based on company data. Even employees with no prior knowledge of coding can build apps through it by providing a simple description of the app and the tasks it should perform. The AI chatbot can then build the end-to-end application. This feature is currently in preview.
