Android 15 Could Bring a New Device Diagnostics Menu, Make It Easier to Fix Issues With Your Phone

The Android 15 beta 3 update was released on Tuesday and introduced several new features for Android smartphones. According to a report, one of the new features of the update is a device diagnostics option in the settings that allows users to run tests on their phones to detect possible problems with their internal components. The option is even proposed to provide evaluation capabilities via another device, making it easier for owners to diagnose their smartphones without having to visit a repair center.

Android Authority, collaborating with reporter Mishaal Rahman, reported on the new Device diagnostics feature of the latest Android beta update. According to the report, it is below Repair mode option in the device settings. It is said to offer two options: Component health i Evaluation modality.

Using the Component health option, users can run various diagnostics, including a screen test and a touch test. It reportedly allows them to swipe across the screen and show where the touch input was registered. It also allows them to check battery health with information such as battery status, date of manufacture, date of first use and cycle count, according to the report. Users can also check the status of the data storage chip and the page lets them know the remaining life of the chip.

On the other hand, the Evaluation modality it reportedly allows users to use another smartphone for a thorough evaluation. They can generate a QR code on the device that needs to be evaluated and scanned with your trusted phone, the report suggests. It is then said to run a series of tests on the smartphone and generate a report detailing any potential problems.

The device's diagnostics menu was reportedly discovered after “playing around” with building Android on a Google Pixel smartphone. Currently, the Android 15 beta 3 update is said to be available only for Pixel 6 and later models.
