Patchy Mix, formerly the Bellator bantamweight champion, is now arguably the most sought-after free agent in the world of combat sports.
His release was confirmed after the PFL (Professional Fighters League) announced on Tuesday a mutual decision not to extend his existing contract. This agreement effectively allows the elite fighter to explore opportunities with other promotions.
“Professional Fighters League and Patchy Mix have mutually agreed to not extend his contract,” PFL officials stated in a press release. “We both decided this is the best course of action for PFL and him.
“Patchy is a fantastic fighter and we wish him well. PFL is excited to crown our next 135 pound champion in the PFL World Tournament.”
This development brings closure to a situation that unfolded over several months. Mix had publicly voiced his dissatisfaction regarding inactivity, which became more acute when a planned bout in November was cancelled. Following that cancellation, Mix formally requested his release from the PFL.
Patchy Mix had consistently expressed his frustration with the promotion over the lack of scheduled fights. His most recent competitive appearance was in May 2024, where he defeated Magomed Magomedov in a rematch.
That victory marked Mix`s seventh consecutive win, pushing his impressive professional record to 20 wins against just 1 loss. However, the significant period of inactivity since that fight prevented him from defending his Bellator title again and was a key factor in his decision to seek departure from the promotion.
With both parties now having officially agreed to part ways, attention turns to Mix`s next move.
It is widely anticipated that the UFC will show immediate interest in signing Mix, given his status as one of the world`s top bantamweights not currently under their banner. Mix trains in Las Vegas, where he often works with current UFC bantamweight champion Merab Dvalishvili, and has previously indicated a desire to compete in the UFC.
Following his release from the PFL, it now appears increasingly likely that Patchy Mix may finally get the opportunity to join the UFC roster.
