Bodytraffic Finds Joy

Arts & Celebrities

This Wednesday, May 29, Body traffic, the Los Angeles-based dance group, is performing a show called “In Pursuit of Joy,” at the Avalon in Hollywood. Tickets are still available.

This is their last home performance of the season (although you will be able to see Body traffic in Sun Valley, Idaho this summer at Ketchum's Argyros on July 14th!)

In search of joy will include The act of becoming by Fernando Hernando Magadan, the Los Angeles premiere I forgot the beginning by Matthew Neenan, as well as another work yet to be announced.

Earlier this year I had the pleasure of seeing it Body traffic to perform and to interview its co-founder and artistic director Tina Burkett, as well as its CEO Gillian Wynn.

Burkett & Wynn is all about creating community for their audience and for their dancers and often hosts a pre-performance (and often post-performance) reception. Burkett greets the audience before the performance and she and Wynn are often there afterwards to say hello and talk.

The dancers are a diverse and talented group seemingly at home in various dance disciplines. Watching them makes you aware of the feeling of being there at the beginning of something big.

What you're seeing is LA becoming a center for dance and dancers as much as it has become for visual artists.
