As much as Halle was convinced that the burgers were just a regular Beyond Burger that they always eat and that it was all in her head, or as Chloe put it, as soon as she bit into one for herself, she knew that something it wasn't going well

“The juice dripping from the burger is not like a Beyond burger. I just knew it wasn't a fake burger,” Chloe said on Instagram Live.

Chloe runs the hotel front desk, frantically calling to ask if they've brought her vegan burgers like she ordered. To his surprise, the person on the other end of the concierge desk informed him that they had delivered “brand name burgers”, not the Beyond Burgers he had ordered in the first place.

Unexpectedly, eating red meat overwhelmed Chloe, who hadn't had red meat in 11 years. “Immediately, I'm losing my shit. I googled a whole can of Sprite,” Chloe said, adding that Halle laughed at her reaction and cried.

This incident happened right before Chloe and Halle were scheduled to open for Beyoncé at her Renaissance World Tour show in Atlanta, Georgia.

The meat-eating bug has Chloe getting candid about what it's been like getting used to life outside of veganism.

“I've been vegan for ten years. I haven't eaten red meat in 10 years,” she said on Instagram Live.

Most of Chloe's fans and other general vegans felt sorry for her; after all she didn't ask for it. A Facebook friend commented:

“I'm a vegetarian, and sometimes it's hard to tell the difference, but you know what real meat tastes like and that stomach ache is no joke.”

Another user added,

“My first time eating meat after going on an all-vegan diet, my stomach… revolted.”

It was about a decade ago that the Bailey sisters first became vegan. As they told Complex during a joint interview in 2017:

“'Being vegan started with our mother. One day she said, “I'm going to try to be a vegetarian for a week.” You can join me if you want. We started the week with her and never went back.”

Veganism among many people has significantly affected a central aspect of Chloe and Halle's career and life.

In a 2023 interview, Halle credited the vegan diet as one of the biggest contributors to keeping her voice healthy by cutting out dairy and eliminating extra mucus build-up. But lo and behold, Chloe and Halle are still strict vegans. This incident exemplifies how easily one could fall into a devastatingly plant-based diet if meal preparation is left to someone else.

Not quite done with life after the involuntary consumption of flesh that found its way into her bloodstream, Chloe continues to process the experience and iterate on ways to connect with fans who relate to these struggles within the frameworks of her own vegan life
