Chris Eubank Jr anticipates a rematch with Conor Benn will take place later this year.
The two boxers faced off in a compelling 12-round contest at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London last month.
Despite securing a victory via unanimous decision, Eubank acknowledges that the fight was exciting enough to justify a second bout, and an agreement for a rematch is already in place.
“Contractually, that`s what the paperwork says,” Eubank Jr revealed on the Diary of a CEO podcast. “It`s highly likely that fight will happen again at some point this year.”
He added, “I want what the fans want. If the fans are demanding it be next, who am I to refuse? The current demand for this Conor Benn fight is exceptionally high right now, so I feel that would be the logical next step.”
Their initial meeting occurred at middleweight, Eubank`s standard division. However, for the first time in his career, he had to comply with a rehydration clause restricting him from gaining more than 10lbs above the limit by the morning of the fight.
Following his win, Eubank was hospitalised and disclosed that his treatment was primarily for severe dehydration.
“After the fight, my face was swollen, and that wasn`t due to punches, but extreme dehydration,” he explained. “The skin becomes weak and just swells up, which was my main issue in hospital.”
He continued, “That`s the extent of my dehydration; my body was retaining all liquids and moisture, refusing to let anything go.”
Eubank might consider moving up in weight from middleweight in the near future, potentially challenging the undisputed super-middleweight champion, Canelo Alvarez.
Regarding Alvarez, Eubank commented, “Canelo – that`s a fight I`ve desired for many years, and I would be thrilled to step into the ring with him.”
