Chris Eubank Jr vs Conor Benn Rematch Nearing

A rematch between Chris Eubank Jr and Conor Benn is getting closer, with Eubank actively pursuing a second bout against his bitter rival. While no contracts are currently signed and formal details are still needed, the fight is expected to happen in 2025.

Eubank Jr, who won their initial meeting by unanimous decision, had been exploring other options.

Eubank Jr, who has yet to claim one of the major world titles, has long sought a fight against boxing legend Canelo Alvarez. However, Canelo has confirmed he will face Terence Crawford for the undisputed super-middleweight title in Las Vegas this September.

The exact terms for the rematch, including weight limits and rehydration clauses, remain undecided. Eubank Jr faced a significant penalty before their first fight for not meeting the required weight.

Promoters Discuss Rematch Terms

Ben Shalom, Eubank Jr`s promoter, recently stated that the potential rematch should occur at a higher weight class. He told Sky Sports that the 160lb weight limit posed a greater challenge for Eubank Jr at this point in his career than the rehydration clause. Shalom emphasised that organisers need to approach the second fight sensibly, noting that the focus on weight was a negative aspect of the first event. He wants weight parameters to be a key discussion point for the rematch, believing this would ease concerns about the fighters` well-being.

Shalom stressed that the priority is for fighters to earn well but exit the ring safely, advocating for any measure that improves safety. Reflecting on the first bout, he acknowledged it was competitive but highlighted concerns about the physical strain on Eubank Jr from making weight. He hopes for thorough discussions regarding weight before finalising the rematch.

Shalom also commented that Conor Benn proved himself a serious and comfortable competitor at middleweight in their first fight, suggesting this performance means weight shouldn`t be as central a topic for a potential rematch.

In May, Conor Benn`s promoter, Eddie Hearn, expressed his fighter`s strong desire for a rematch. Hearn told Sky Sports that Benn is eager to face Eubank Jr again and believes he will significantly improve upon his performance in the first fight, which was his first in over a year at 160lb.

Hearn praised the initial bout, calling it an unforgettable night that showcased both fighters` credit, and stated they would “love to run it back.”
