FC Barcelona prodigy Lamine Yamal made history on Sunday by becoming La Liga’s youngest ever goalscorer.

The Spain international netted a much-needed strike for his boyhood club, who had been shocked by falling 2-0 down at Granada.

Bryan Zaragoza Martinez put the hosts ahead with a brace which was started in less than half a minute when Gavi was dispossessed in his own half.

Approaching the half hour mark, the winger doubled his side’s account and left Xavi Hernandez’s men stunned.

The former midfielder didn’t give his charges a dressing down during a water break approaching 40 minutes, though, and instead encouraged youngsters such as Fermin Lopez and Lamine Yamal.

A pat on the back clearly worked for the teenager, who Xavi helped make history by becoming Barca’s youngest appearance maker in the 21st century and in La Liga in the spring when given a run out towards the end of a 4-0 win over Real Betis.

Since then, Lamine Yamal has become a starter in the first team and was guaranteed the nod this evening given injuries to Raphinha and Robert Lewandowski meaning Ferran Torres had to fill in as a striker.

Playing on the right wing, the number 27 made an impact on the fixture and in history when embarking on an excellent diagonal run in the box in stoppage time of the first half.

Latching on to Joao Felix’s pass, Lamine Yamal made sure he stayed onside, controlled the ball with the outside of his stronger left foot and then poked home a much-needed consolation goal.

Barca therefore went down the tunnel at the interval just a goal down, with Lamine’s name the talk of social media.

With another record broken, he had eclipsed Fabrice Olinga who scored the only goal of the game for Malaga against Celta Vigo on August 18, 2012 aged 16 years and 98 days.

As another international break is upon us, it was now or never for Lamine Yamal to top Olinga and he has achieved it at 16 years and 87 days of age.

After facing Granada, Barca will not be in action again until October 22 when they host Athletic Club at the Montjuic Stadium, with Lamine Yamal already 16 years and 101 days of age by then.
