Former X-MEN ’97 Showrunner Confirms Finale Has MAN OF STEEL Homage

TV

We beloved X-Men '97 practically from start to finish. Is the the best X-Men thing, maybe ever. The three-part finale delivered some intense action for our merry band of mutants. One such memorable moment came when Rogue—still enraged by Gambit, et al—starts hitting the villain Bastion and knocks him through the side of Asteroid M and into outer space. If that looked familiar, it's no coincidence. Former showrunner Beau DeMayo explains in a Twitter posts that the moment was an unconscious homage to 2013 man of steel.

“Action is driven by emotion, not plot,” DeMayo shared alongside a video of his TV. It plays the scene from the midpoint of Henry Cavill's first Superman movie. As Zod threatens Martha (which we know is very touchy for the people of this universe), Clark flies in, grabs Zod, and carries him through the cornfield and through a silo. It's an example of rampant superhero destruction in the film, but it's also a great recap of Superman's first strike moment, so to speak.

We will have to wait a long time, probably, for a second season of the show. At least we can be sure we'll probably have a ton of behind-the-scenes stuff between now and then. We're never crazy about revisiting such a great series.
