According to promoter Frank Warren, Tyson Fury could be tempted out of retirement by the desire for `revenge` in a third fight against Oleksandr Usyk.
However, a long-awaited clash with his major British rival Anthony Joshua would hold `massive appeal` for the UK public, Warren stated.
Fury previously lost two close decisions in heavyweight world title bouts against Ukraine`s Usyk last year. He announced his retirement in January, but recent regular posts of his training footage have sparked speculation of an imminent comeback.
A natural opponent for Fury is Joshua, another prominent British heavyweight. Both Fury and AJ held world titles concurrently but never faced each other during their reigns.
Despite this, their rivalry endures.
Warren commented to Sky News: “For the Brits, the fight between Tyson and AJ is the one that hasn`t happened yet. Maybe it will, who knows? So that carries immense appeal.”
Nonetheless, the prospect of a third match against Usyk could still motivate Fury.
“But for Tyson to get the fight [with Usyk], to get revenge [after] what he feels, and what I also believe, certainly in one of the fights, was a fight he won, that`s another huge, significant fight,” Warren explained.
He added, however: “But you know what, Daniel Dubois is going to beat Usyk. So that`s going to completely change everything.”
Warren also advised Joshua against pursuing a rematch with Daniel Dubois, who secured a knockout victory over Joshua in September.
“You can see from the first fight, he`s getting better and better,” Warren said regarding Dubois.
“So it`s a difficult fight for AJ. I understand AJ`s position, he`s a fighter, he`s a two-time world champion, but, I regret to say, this sport is primarily for young men.”
“Unless you`re a promoter.”
