The man was receiving medical treatment, Hamburg police said in a post on X, formerly Twitter, without providing further details.
The incident occurred in the downtown area of St. Pauli in the city, which German media said was packed with thousands of fans ahead of Sunday's match between Holland and Poland. The police spokesman said there was no initial indication that the incident was related to the football match.
Local media reported that the incident took place around 12:30 local time on the Reeperbahn, a main street and nightlife area of the city. It was near a fan zone for supporters of the Dutch national team, CBS News partner BBC reported.

Videos and photos shared on social media showed a chaotic scene at Reeperbahn.
German authorities have put police on high alert during the tournament, which began on Friday and runs until July 14, over fears of possible fan violence and terrorist attacks.
An Afghan man was shot dead by police on Friday after he fatally attacked a fellow countryman and then wounded three people watching the televised match between Germany and Scotland in an eastern German city. Police said Sunday that the motive for the attack was still unclear.
