Here’s When the ‘Gladiator 2’ Trailer Will Drop [Exclusive]

Get ready to be entertained! Collider has learned exclusively that the first trailer for Ridley Scott's Gladiator II, the epic historical sequel to his 2000 Oscar-winning masterpiece, will be released online in mid-July, but with a bit of genius, it's paired with the most anticipated blockbuster of the year . In addition to going online, the trailer will also be attached Deadpool and Wolverinewhich should ensure maximum exposure for the film, given that the Marvel blockbuster is likely to end up as one of the two or three most-watched pictures of the year. Deadpool and Wolverine will be released in the middle of the summer season, on July 26.

The film, a hugely ambitious production that ended a few months ago after shooting in Europe, stars Paul Mescal as the new protagonist, taking on the role of the now-adult Lucius Verus, the nephew of Commodus (played by Joaquin Phoenix in the original film). Lucius has been living “in the wilderness” for 15 years, with his reappearance causing quite a stir. Outside of Mescal, the film also appears Denzel Washington as a former slave, who has since become a wealthy merchant, while Joseph Quinn is the new emperor, Caracalla. What was 'Gladiator' about?

Published in 2000, gladiator was a critical and commercial success, grossing over $460 million worldwide, starring Russell Crowe as Maximus Decimus Meridius, a loyal Roman general betrayed by Commodus, the corrupt son of Emperor Marcus Aurelius. After his family is murdered, Maximus is enslaved and becomes a gladiator, but uses his skills and charisma to rise through the ranks, inspiring others as they seek revenge. His ultimate goal is to confront Commodus and restore justice to Rome. gladiator won five Academy Awards, including Best Picture and Best Actor for Crowe, out of a total of twelve nominations.

Deadpool and Wolverine arrives in theaters on July 26, where it will be joined by the trailer for Gladiator II, which enters the Colosseum multiplex on November 15 in international markets, and November 22 in the United States.
