Indiana Rep. Victoria Spartz charged with weapons violation at Virginia airport

Washington — Rep. Victoria Spartz, Republican of Indiana, has been charged with a weapons violation for an alleged incident at Dulles International Airport in Virginia.

The Washington Metropolitan Airports Authority confirmed that Spartz was charged Friday.

The Transportation Security Administration would not confirm Spartz's involvement, but said agents last week “detected a .380-caliber firearm during the passenger security screening.” The weapon “was unloaded and in the individual's purse,” according to TSA.

Spartz's office did not immediately respond to a request for comment from CBS News.

It is a crime to “possess or transport” weapons in Virginia airport terminals.

Spartz fended off eight Republican challengers to win their primaries in may First elected in 2020, she announced in 2023 that she would not seek re-election before reversing her decision.
