Instagram Users May Soon Get Early Access to Experimental Features: Report

Meta's photo and video sharing platform Instagram plans to introduce a way for users to get early access to features, according to a recent leak. Currently, testers can only join [Android] Beta Program to access beta features of Instagram that are currently in testing. With the rumored “early access,” users can experiment with features in development using an alternative method.

A screenshot shared on Threads by developer Alessandro Paluzzi suggests that the option to join early access may be present in Configuration and activity tab A new “early access to features” is visible as the last option.

With this new option, Instagram could finally allow users early access to its experimental features similar to Google Search Labs and YouTube Experiments.

AI generated themes on Instagram

Paluzzi also revealed that the social media platform is working to further incorporate artificial intelligence (AI) into its app. It can be said that it can allow users to generate topics for AI chats.

Currently, Instagram allows users to adjust chat themes with options such as gradients and colors, while also introducing special themes. A screenshot shared by the leaker shows a new one Create with AI option along with other chat themes like Pickleball, Snack Party, and Minecraft.

A similar feature is also reported to be in the works on WhatsApp which could allow users to choose from five preset themes: blue, green (default), grey, red and purple. According to the report, it may be available through a new theme picker, and selecting a theme can change the color and wallpaper in the chat background.

Upcoming Instagram cross-posting feature

According to another recent report, Instagram is also working on bringing cross-posting to the platform. It would reportedly allow users to post Instagram content to Threads, Meta's microblogging platform that serves as a direct competitor to X (formerly Twitter).

This feature would not be enabled by default and users may need to enable it to use it, the report speculates. According to reports, it would work along the same lines as the cross-posting functionality between Instagram and Facebook.
