Jake Paul, the well-known figure who transitioned from YouTube star to professional boxer, has expressed his support for a potential “super-fight” between Jon Jones and Francis Ngannou. Paul believes this highly anticipated matchup could serve as a fitting conclusion to the careers of both elite heavyweights.
Paul holds an ownership stake in PFL (Professional Fighters League), the promotion where Francis Ngannou is currently signed. Ngannou would represent PFL in any cross-promotional clash. Paul has also openly admired Jon Jones, the current UFC heavyweight champion, who has indicated a willingness to put his title on the line against his long-time rival, Ngannou.
Francis Ngannou has consistently voiced his desire to face Jon Jones. However, making this fight happen would require an unprecedented collaboration between the UFC and PFL. While PFL appears eager for such a co-promotion, securing an agreement from UFC President Dana White remains a significant hurdle.
Paul Backs Jones` Callout
Recently, Jon Jones stirred controversy among fans by seemingly overlooking a potential bout with interim champion Tom Aspinall in favor of challenging Francis Ngannou. Jones took to social media platform X to call out Ngannou, who many consider the `lineal` UFC heavyweight champion despite his departure from the promotion with the belt.
The prospect of this potential super-fight, a topic both fighters have discussed since 2023, reignited interest among the mixed martial arts community after Jones` recent challenge. Jones` callout came shortly after comments from Eric Nicksick, Ngannou`s coach, hinted at Ngannou possibly being open to a return to the UFC.
Jake Paul, leveraging his platform and PFL connection, shared his perspective on social media, fully endorsing the idea of a clash between the two promotional giants.
“The perfect final dance for the two greatest MMA heavyweights of all time,” Paul wrote. “Jon Jones wants it. Francis Ngannou wants it. Big fight for the sport. Big fight for the fans and Big business. Who doesn’t want it?”
Ngannou Responds to Jones
Reacting to the reports of Ngannou`s continued interest, Jones had initially posted:
“I’m hearing Francis Ngannou is still interested… now we’re talking. That’s a real super fight. A clash of champions, not just hype. He held the UFC belt, I’ve defended mine for over a decade. Two kings from different roads. Not just one legend facing a mouth that’s hot right now, but two real legacies colliding. That’s the kind of fight that actually adds something special to my story. At least from my point of view.”
Ngannou responded, acknowledging the challenges posed by their respective promoters who may not favor working together. He suggested a path forward to Jones:
“You take care of the UFC, I’ll take care of the PFL, and we’ll finally find out who’s the KING OF THE HEAVYWEIGHT.”
