UFC superstar Jon Jones has finally set the record straight regarding a long-circulating story about suffering a knockout – not in an official contest, but during a training session with a former UFC welterweight.
Jones`s professional fighting record lists just one defeat, a controversial disqualification against Matt Hamill back in December 2009. This result is widely considered an unfair refereeing decision, and the specific rule that led to the disqualification has since been changed. However, whispers of a different kind of defeat have persisted for years: a knockout that occurred outside the bright lights of the octagon.
Jones Confirms Adlan Amagov Delivered the Knockout
Jon Jones recently confirmed the truth behind this decade-old story, revealing that he was indeed knocked out by Adlan Amagov during a sparring session in Albuquerque. The account was initially brought to public attention by legendary former interim welterweight champion Carlos Condit, who was also present and impacted during the same training.
According to reports, Amagov arrived for an early sparring session and first dropped Condit with a powerful spinning back kick. Shortly after, in the same session, he landed the exact same strike on Jones, a fighter who has demonstrated extraordinary resilience throughout his career.
Jones himself recounted the moment in a recent social media video, speaking to an acquaintance of Amagov`s. “Adlan Amagov KO’d me, very true story,” Jones confirmed in slightly broken English. “Spinning back kick, boom, me down.” He added with casual acceptance, “It’s okay, sometimes it happens.”
The Story`s Long History
Carlos Condit was the first to widely share the details of Jones`s sparring knockout, discussing the incident and Amagov`s skill on Rampage Jackson`s Jaxxon Podcast. This particular sparring event is often cited as the only known instance of Jon Jones being stopped or knocked down in any combat or training scenario.
Condit described Amagov as a formidable “spinning back kick guy” who had caused him trouble before landing the decisive blow on Jones. “And then I think a round or two later, he hit Jon with that spinning back kick and he dropped him,” Condit stated.
Interestingly, the very technique that put Jones down in sparring later became a weapon in his own arsenal. Jones famously utilized a spinning back kick to achieve a knockout victory against Stipe Miocic in a high-profile fight.
