Palace shares new update on Kate Middleton's return to work after cancer diagnosis

The royal family sends their condolences.

Prince William i Kate Middleton honored the death of Mark Longa British Royal Air Force (RAF) pilot who crashed while flying a Second World War Spitfire aircraft on 25 May.

“Incredibly sad to hear the news this afternoon from RAF Coningsby,” the couple shared on X, formerly known as Twitter, the same day. “Our thoughts tonight are with the pilot's loved ones, the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight and the wider RAF family.”

Mark's death was confirmed by the group captain Robbie Leeswho described the pilot as a “great friend, colleague and passionate professional aviator”.

“An investigation has now been launched into the cause of this tragic event,” explains the May 26 statement. “The RAF will not be commenting on the accident until this investigation has concluded, and similarly, we ask others not to speculate.”

“I would like to extend a sincere thank you to RAF personnel and our colleagues in the emergency services who responded so quickly yesterday,” the message continued. “Our thoughts remain with Mark's family and friends to whom we offer our deepest condolences. We ask that their privacy be respected at this tragic and shocking time.”
