Applause

The Waco Convention & Visitors Bureau recently won several awards at the 2023 Texas Destination Excellence Awards, held Aug. 31 in College Station at the annual conference of the Texas Association of Convention & Visitor Bureaus.

Waco CVB won first place in four categories:

  • Best Leisure/Tourism Marketing Campaign, for the “GetaWaco” getaway campaign
  • Community/Local Engagement Promotion, for pop-up markets using the city’s new mobile welcome center
  • Public Relations, for the “Eclipse Over Texas: Live from Waco” campaign promoting the event next April
  • Video, Storytelling & Podcast Series, for the “We Are Waco” video series featuring local entrepreneurs.

The local tourism agency also won second place in the Meeting and Convention Promotion category for the “Go for the W” campaign, aimed at bringing sporting events or conventions to Waco.

Moving up

  • Providence Hospice recently named Dr. Joshua Wesley as its medical director for the Waco area.

Wesley will provide clinical leadership and guide medical teams throughout the area, including at the organization’s inpatient facility in Waco. Providence Hospice is part of a partnership, with Fort Worth-based Community Healthcare of Texas, which serves a 25-county region in Central and North Texas.

He will also work to develop and implement care plans to meet patients’ physical, emotional and spiritual needs.

Wesley has worked with Providence Hospice since 2017 as a team physician. He is board-certified in family medicine and holds a hospice medical director certification.

In 2017, Wesley joined Waco Family Medicine, where he completed his residency and served as chief resident, and has served as a clinical group physician and associate director for WFM’s hospice and palliative medicine fellowship program.

He earned his medical degree from Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center School of Medicine in Lubbock.
