The star player has confirmed on Instagram that he will not return this year after suffering a lacerated spleen in the Demons' loss to Collingwood on King's birthday.
Petracca previously came to the defense of Melbourne's medical staff after suffering internal injuries.
The elite midfielder returned to the field at the MCG after dealing with injuries in a marking contest. Melbourne said on Tuesday that Petracca's pain “increased in the middle” before he was taken to hospital.
