And while she tried to “focus my thoughts on positive statements of power,” Cheslie explained that the positivity “only lasted so long.”

When you read this will be released on April 23, with proceeds from the book going to the Cheslie C. Kryst Foundation, which provides mental health support for youth and young adults. The book is a collaboration between Cheslie and her mother April Simpkinsthat, before Cheslie's death, he received a note from his daughter asking him to make sure the memoir was published.

April has been open about Cheslie's mental health struggles and raising awareness since the beauty queen took her own life in January 2022 in New York.

“Cheslie led both a public and a private life,” she told E! News later that year. “In his private life, he was dealing with high-functioning depression that he hid from everyone, including me, his closest confidant, until very shortly before his death.”

“I have never known pain as deep as this,” he added. “I am forever changed.”
