Molly McCann Retires from UFC, Set to Begin Boxing Career

Molly McCann, previously a notable figure in the UFC, is set to embark on a professional boxing career following her retirement from mixed martial arts.

Her retirement from the UFC was announced in March after she lost a fight to Alexia Thainara, marking the end of her ten-year tenure in the sport.

The 35-year-old, known as `Meatball` due to her past job in a sandwich shop, has not yet named her first opponent in the boxing ring.

McCann stated that the timing was right to depart MMA, making the choice with the knowledge that a boxing career was available to her.

She highlighted her existing boxing background, mentioning, “The boxing pedigree is there. I was in and out of the boxing gym growing up because I like to fight and like to punch. I can just go. I will fight anyone, wherever, whenever.”

McCann finished her MMA career with 14 wins and eight defeats

Having concluded her MMA journey with a record of 14 wins and eight defeats, McCann has now signed a contract with Matchroom to pursue boxing.

Promoter Eddie Hearn commented on the move, saying, “She will now compete as a boxer, and it`s about time, I`d say. She`s a former ABA champion, and everyone is aware of her boxing skills. She was obviously a huge star in the UFC and built a global profile.”

Hearn added, “We are thrilled to begin this journey with her and glad she chose Matchroom. She will be fighting internationally, and there will be some major events. Our aim is to keep her very active.”
