A mountain lion was struck and killed in the northbound lanes of the 405 Freeway on Thursday.
It's unclear exactly when the crash occurred and what type of vehicle hit the big cat, but a single orange cone could be seen next to the body on the highway's center divider at the Sepúlveda Pass.
California Department of Fish and Wildlife officials were said to be in the area to collect the mountain lion's body, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Once they recover the body and run tests, they will be able to determine if the big cat was tagged, according to Beth Pratt, regional executive director of the National Wildlife Federation of California.
