Muhammad Mokaev remains undefeated after securing another victory since leaving the UFC.
His pursuit of a title shot in the premier MMA organization was put on hold in 2024, despite extending his unblemished Octagon record to 7-0 with a win against Manel Kape.
Due to external factors and reported disagreements with matchmakers, UFC President Dana White announced the promotion would not be renewing Mokaev`s contract.
Initially seeking fan backing for a quick return, `The Punisher` has since focused on proving himself with strong performances in other promotions.
His latest fight, aimed at regaining the UFC`s attention, took place this past weekend.
Muhammad Mokaev Claims Decision Victory Over Thomas Assis at 971 Fighting Championship
Mokaev`s first bout after departing the UFC was in December, returning to his previous promotion, Brave CF.
The British fighter, born in Dagestan, made a statement by submitting short-notice opponent Joevincent So in less than two minutes.
While he didn`t secure a finish this time, Mokaev was victorious again in his first fight of the year, held on Saturday in Dubai.
Headlining 971 FC 2, `The Punisher` defeated Brazilian fighter Thomas Assis, a veteran of Jungle Fight with a 12-2 record, via decision.
Although the fight was contested at bantamweight, Mokaev made several assertions about his dominance in his usual flyweight division (125 pounds), starting with his pay.
“15-0,” Mokaev posted on X. “Most [highly] paid fighter FLYWEIGHT in the world.
“Just never give up, face the challenges and become stronger. Doesn’t matter what you’re going through in your life!”
In a separate post, Mokaev shifted his focus from earnings to his skill level.
“The best flyweight in the world.”
Muhammad Mokaev Aims for UFC Return to Challenge Alexandre Pantoja for Title
Another successful performance outside the UFC has undoubtedly fueled Mokaev`s ambition to return to the sport`s premier promotion.
Before his June 14th win, Mokaev spoke with Bloody Elbow, restating his goal to be re-signed by Dana White for a much-discussed potential bout against UFC flyweight champion Alexandre Pantoja.
“I believe I just need to deliver a strong striking performance and secure a spectacular finish. People are already talking about my return to the UFC. Naturally, my dream is to be the world`s best.”
“Pantoja is 36, I`m 24 and in my prime. Remember, I was defeating fighters in their prime when I was only 22. Now, I feel significantly stronger and better.”
“Everything that has happened in my career has strengthened me mentally. I am now ready to compete for the title.”
Currently, Pantoja is scheduled to defend his title against Kai Kara-France in the co-main event of UFC 317 on June 28th in Las Vegas.
