UFC star Ronda Rousey`s life story is set to become a film.
The former UFC Women’s Bantamweight Champion was not only a pioneer for women’s mixed martial arts but a true trailblazer who participated in some of the sport’s most significant bouts.
Rousey transitioned to MMA from a background in Olympic judo and was incredibly dominant initially, securing first-round victories against her first eleven opponents primarily through armbar submissions and strikes.
However, her undefeated streak ended dramatically in one of the most discussed downfalls in UFC history. After reaching the pinnacle, Rousey lost her championship belt to Holly Holm by head kick knockout in 2015, followed by a swift TKO loss to Amanda Nunes less than a minute into her return fight a year later.
Around ten years after losing her title, Rousey has shared insights into the events behind her career’s ascent and decline in her memoirs, `My Fight/Your Fight` and `Our Fight`.
Now, Rousey`s journey is being brought to the screen by Netflix.
Augustine Frizzell of `Euphoria` to Direct Ronda Rousey Biopic
Deadline has confirmed that the upcoming biopic, a collaboration between Netflix and Chernin Entertainment, will be directed by Augustine Frizzell, known for her work on `Euphoria`.
The script, based on the former champion’s memoirs, was written by Rousey herself over a period of seven days.
According to Deadline, Frizzell had already read both of Rousey’s memoirs when she was approached to direct the film and is reportedly a fan of the UFC.
Frizzell directed the inaugural episode of the popular series `Euphoria` in 2019. Her filmography also includes A24’s `Never Goin’ Back` (2018) and `The Last Letter from Your Lover` (2021).
Ronda Rousey Comments on Her Biopic Adaptation
Discussions about a biopic covering Rousey’s fighting career date back to 2015, when Paramount held the rights.
Ten years later, the untitled project has secured a director, a prominent platform on Netflix (one of the leading streaming services), and a screenplay penned by Rousey herself.
Rousey shared her reaction to Frizzell’s appointment as director.
“Another step closer to making this dream a reality,” Rousey posted on Instagram on Tuesday.
