Nothing to Soon Integrate ChatGPT With Its Entire Audio Lineup and CMF Earphones

Technology

Nothing is expanding ChatGPT integration across its entire line of audio devices, as well as every headset released under its CMF brand. The London-based smartphone brand last month launched Nothing Ear and Nothing Ear A, which were the brand's first wireless headphones to get native artificial intelligence (AI) chatbot integration from OpenAI. Users could activate the chatbot just by pinching the stem of the device. Now, this functionality is being extended to all of the brand's headphones.

The announcement comes from the official X (formerly known as Twitter) handle of Nothing, which also mentioned the list of headphones that will get the feature. According to the company, the Ear 1, Ear Stick, Ear 2, CMF Buds, CMF Neckband Pro, and CMF Buds Pro will also receive ChatGPT integration. Interestingly, this list also includes the Ear 1, the company's first wireless headphones.

However, there are a couple of caveats before users can access ChatGPT directly through their headsets. First, there is a double opt-in process. Nothing was explained by co-founder and CEO Carl Pei in a separate publication that users will first need to download the ChatGPT app on their smartphone and then set the trigger to activate the chatbot using the Nothing X app. Also, the integration will only work when the headset is paired with the smartphone by Nothing. However, once these conditions are met, users can easily access the AI model without the need for the phone.

ChatGPT integration allows users to make a verbal query to the chatbot and get the answer directly through the headset. This integration is expected to improve now that OpenAI has introduced the GPT-4o model that offers real-time verbal conversations and emotive voices. Also, with real-time video processing, the user can also show something to the chatbot and get an instant response about it. These features are slowly being developed by the AI company.

Although the Nothing Ear and Ear A headphones are not listed, they already have ChatGPT integration. Released in April, the headphones are equipped with 11mm dynamic drivers, support up to 45dB ANC, and include a transparency mode. Both headphones have an in-ear detection feature and allow Google Fast Pair and Microsoft Swift Pair.
