A New York University student is suing her roommate and her roommate's mother for allegedly stealing more than $50,000 worth of clothing, handbags and jewelry and then trying to sell the items through 'an online store, court documents show.

The suit alleges that Aurora Agapov's roommate, Kaitlyn Fung, “devised a scheme whereby she would steal plaintiff's jewelry and high-end designer clothing and handbags and sell them through of The RealReal.”

Agapov, who completed his freshman year at New York University earlier this summer, noticed around May 1 that some of his belongings were missing, court documents show. The same day, he allegedly discovered a receipt written to his roommate Fung, who is from Old Tappan, New Jersey. The lawsuit alleges the receipt was from luxury consignment shop The RealReal and listed some of the items allegedly stolen.

“My heart dropped,” Agapov told the New York Post about his discovery of the alleged thefts, which included items given to him by his mother. “We talk pretty much every day,” she added to the Post about her roommate. “I would say we haven't had any conflict or anything.”

In a statement, The RealReal said all consignors must sign an agreement confirming that they have the right to sell the items and that the items are not stolen. The company said it was working with local authorities on the matter of Agapov's lawsuit and had released all the information requested.

“If we receive information that items may be stolen, we act quickly by removing them from the site and launching an investigation,” a company spokesman said. “We also advise the alleged victim to file a police report and work with law enforcement and other legal authorities.”

Fung's legal team and Agapov's legal team did not immediately respond to CBS News' request for comment.

According to the lawsuit, Agapov confronted Fung, who had been her roommate during the 2023-2024 school year, and Fung allegedly admitted to stealing several valuable items, some of which had already been sold through from The RealReal, which calls itself “.the largest marketplace for authenticated luxury consignments.”

At Agapov's request, Fung allegedly logged into his RealReal account and showed him the items that were put up for sale. According to the lawsuit, they included a Solange Azagury 18K ruby ring worth $23,765, a Celine Nanno bag worth $3,300 and a Chanel bag worth $4,000.

The app also listed stolen items that had already been sold, including a Chanel bracelet that had sold for $175 and a Bvlgari necklace that had sold for $2,485. According to the lawsuit, both items “were sold for substantially less than their true market value. Specifically, the Chanel Strauss bracelet was valued at $2,000 and the Bvlgari necklace was valued at approximately $13,000.”

The application allegedly listed other items stolen from Agapov but returned to Fung, including a Gucci bag, a Celine bag and Christian Louboutin shoes.

According to the lawsuit, the value of the unsold stolen items is approximately $31,000, while the damages sought for the sold stolen items are at least $20,000.

Agapov reported the alleged theft to the NYPD on May 2, and Fung was arrested the same day, according to the lawsuit.

When Agapov went to The RealReal store in midtown Manhattan to discuss the theft, an employee told him that Fung's mother, named Jane Doe in the lawsuit, instructed the store to send the unsold items to her home in New Jersey, according to court documents. . Those items have not yet been returned, despite Agapov's demands, according to the lawsuit.

A subpoena for Fung was served on his father at his New Jersey residence on June 6, court documents showed.
