Pedro Pascal and Dakota Johnson’s Rom-Com Just Got One Step Closer to Our Screens

When the sun sets and the moon rises in New York City, Peter Pascal says it as a wrap for his next film, materialists, in an Instagram post. Taking your social media, The last of us the star said goodbye to the film's location in The Big Apple, where he worked alongside Chris Evans i Dakota Johnson. Along with his skyline and rooftop shot of the moon rising over Manhattan, Pascal also shared some images of his cast mates and the film's director, Celine song. The foursome appear to be out on the town enjoying a meal together, as one shot shows Pascal and Johnson embracing while the other features Song and Evans leaning on each other. Keeping things smart, Pascal captioned it: “Moon me. #Materialists #NewYorkCity #CelineSong This is a wrap.”


There hasn't been much information floating around about Song's latest project, aside from some news in February that Pascal, Evans and Johnson were all in talks to join Song's latest feature. In the four months since then, the filmmaker and her main stars have been able to shoot an entire film that is billed as a romantic comedy. As for the plot, materialists will center around a matchmaker whose own romantic life takes a turn for the worse after she gets caught up in a love triangle. Presumably, Johnson will play the matchmaker with Pascal and Evans as the two men fighting for her affection.


Along with the main trio of performers, materialists it is also set as the protagonist Marin Ireland (The Umbrella Academy), Louisa Jacobson (The Golden Age), Dasha Nekrasova (Succession), i Zoƫ Winters (Succession). The title will be added to A24's upcoming slate of productions, alongside other highly anticipated films such as MaXXXine i A different man. The rom-com also marks the second collaboration between Song and the studio, as they were previously paired with award circuit favorite, Past Lives.


'Materialists' marks the cinematic return of Celine Song

After winning Academy Award nominations for Best Picture and Best Original Screenplay for his work behind it Past LivesThe song is again with materialists. His directorial debut was a semi-autobiographical film that follows two childhood friends who grow up together and, as adults, question their place in each other's lives. The movie was a refreshing romantic comedy drama, so we can expect a similar vibe and feel from Song's next production. The same that Past LivesSong also serves as scribe for materialists which only makes us believe that his comedic tone and light-hearted attitude when dealing with heavy subjects will shine through.
