What is 'The Son' about?
Pierce Brosnan plays Eli McCullough, a middle-aged Texan who runs a large ranch in the city. Brutal cattle baron, he is desperate to find oil and leave a legacy to his two sons and grandchildren. Set in 1915, Henry Garrett i David Wilson Barnes he plays Eli's two sons, Pete and Phineas, respectively. While Phineas is obedient to his father, Pete is not and dreams of leaving the ranch behind because of his father's corruption, which he worries will influence his own children. Through flashbacks to 1849, the series reveals that when Eli was 13 years old, he and his family were brutally attacked by the Comanche tribe, led by Chief Toshaway, played by the fantastic. Zahn McClarnon. Eli is the only survivor. The tribe holds him captive, and he and Toshaway form a father-son-like bond, with McClarnon having plenty of scene-stealing moments.
As father and son clash, tensions rise between the McCulloughs and the Garcia family. Headed by the rich native Mexican neighbor, Pedro García (Carlos Bardem), a war breaks out between the two families after the McCulloughs murder a member of the Garcia family, Caesar Garcia. The two opposing sides then fight for land, power and revenge. To complicate matters, Pete falls in love with Garcia's daughter, Maria (PaulaNúñez), and begin a secret adventure, hoping to build a better life away from evil and dishonest men.

It was originally to be played by Sam Neill before he had to leave, Pierce Brosnan transforms into a cold-blooded killer as Eli. It's one of Brosnan's most underrated roles. His main action hero persona is gone as he plays an embittered old man who has left his family a lot of wealth but can't let go of power. Featuring numerous flashbacks to the 1840s, young Eli is played by Jacob Lofland, which is surprising as an outsider in a new world and must accept new ways of life. As he has trained to become a warrior by being shot by arrows in the fields and attacked by the Texas Rangers, he becomes an honorary member of the tribe before being chained to their power-hungry targets later in life.
There are many chilling sequences of McCullough wanting to invoke violence against his enemies, whether it's a businessman at lunch or his fight with the Garcias. Even though she can wear nice clothes and eat at nice restaurants, she can't shake her past and who she is at her core. McCullough often fantasizes about continuing the traditions and ways of the Comanche tribe. One such scene involves his imagination of scalping a businessman during lunch who denies his business as he used to do when he was young. His sudden extreme use of violence is shocking, and Brosnan is unhinged and terrifying as he daydreams about mercilessly attacking the man, scalping the restaurant. Brosnan, in a rare anti-hero role within his Just Men career, lets it rip.
'The Son' has some of the most violent scenes of any Western
A violent story of greedy men fills many fight scenes The son. From the very first episode, the show doesn't take it easy on its audience. It has one of the most violent and intense openings of any modern western, as it flashes back to the 1840s for the first time and reveals what happened the night Eli was kidnapped. It's a sudden jolt that makes the series work and remains unforgettable as Eli is stripped of his innocence and who he once was.
As Eli sits at home with his brother, sister, and mother, a group of Comanches attack the family and continue to torture and fight them until they are all dead except for Eli and his brother . The scene chooses to stay on Eli's face as he watches helplessly from the ground as his sister and mother are attacked. The result is a gripping and moving sequence as he watches his family die before his eyes. It sets the show up to be one of the darkest westerns on TV, but also the best in recent years. What makes the flashbacks even more shocking is that the violence the men inflict on each other, especially the white men of the Comanche tribe, used to annoy Eli to no end. Now aged and cold, he has become the man who was once his enemy as he wreaks havoc on the town's Mexican population.
If You Miss 'Succession', 'The Son' Is an Intense Southern Saga of Family Greed
Exploring how evil can spread through generations and kill the soul, The son spares no carnage in depicting how Eli has ruined his family. For those who miss Succession and Logan Roy's inner turmoil to decide which of his children to leave his empire to, the western series shares many of these themes. The fight with Garcia begins when Eli kidnaps Pedro's son-in-law, César. He proceeds to brutally torture him before his son, Pete, kills him. It is clear that it has become a tsunami of debris in his family. Pete longs to break free from his family's corruption, and the series questions whether blood really does run thicker than water.
A war breaks out for Eli as he realizes all the harm he has done to the Garcia family to maintain control, and the war between him and Pete also grows until they have become sworn enemies on the side and side of morality Pete's rebellion is an argument that you can reject your blood and become something of your own, something Eli once did, but now can't let his kids do.
Based on the novel of the same name written by Philip Meyers, the series contains incredible dialogue, including Eli's acknowledgment of his waning humanity: “I've been a lot of bad things in my time. I racked up my fair share of black marks against my soul. For what it was all this?” At the end of the day, Eli is a scared man, scared of death and the things he's done, as well as what he's left to his children.
