Technology

Sony has announced a State of Play gaming presentation, scheduled for Thursday, May 30. The live stream, which starts at 3:00 PM PT / 6:00 PM ET (or Friday, 3:30 AM IST), will include updates on PS5 and PS VR2 titles. The show will also offer a glimpse of Sony's slate of games arriving later this year. The latest State of Play presentation aired on February 6th, where Square Enix delved into Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth.

What to expect from State of Play

The showcase will last over 30 minutes and will include 14 PS5 and PS VR2 games. Sony hasn't revealed any details about the show's content, but expect a new Astro Bot title from Team Asobi, an update to Destiny 2: The Final Shape, and an announcement about PC game support for PS VR2 . A major reveal from Sony's own studios, for example an update to Insomniac Games' Wolverine or upcoming games from Naughty Dog or Santa Monica Studio, is unlikely, as the showcase will focus on PlayStation Studios games that arrive in 2024.

Summer Games Showcase Events

The State of Play Showcase will kick off the summer games industry event season. Following Sony's May 30 show, Geoff Keighley's Summer Game Fest, which has de facto replaced E3 as the biggest summer gaming event, will air on June 7. On the same day, Devolver Digital will hold its own direct presentation. Summer Game Fest's Day of the Devs event, which highlights indie games, also airs on June 7.

Next, on June 9, Microsoft will host the Xbox Games Showcase, immediately followed by a live presentation dedicated to Call of Duty: Black Ops 6. The PC Gaming show will also take place on June 9. A day later, Ubisoft Forward will arrive with planned updates to Assassin's Creed Shadows and Star Wars Outlaws.

Sony has already held two State of the Game broadcasts this year. The first showcase was on January 31st, featuring games like Death Stranding 2, Stellar Blade, Rise of the Ronin and more. The second State of Play of the year, dedicated to Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, was broadcast on February 6. The new edition of the event will be streamed live on PlayStation's YouTube, Twitch and TikTok channels.
