After being all but forgotten when Paramount+ scrapped the animated series, Star Trek: Prodigy Season 2 has finally hit our screens via Netflix. Packed with delightful stories for fans young and old alike, Prodigy Season 2 is a delight, it's even harder to understand how Paramount let the series go in the first place. One of the major plot points of the season sees the kids cross paths with the now-legendary Wesley Crusher (Wil Wheaton) in a timely adventure for the ages. Although this story in itself is a treat for anyone who watched Wes grow up The next generationco-creators of series Dan i Kevin Hageman also managed to land in a more special moment for those fans who tuned in to the final season of Star Trek: Picard.

At the end of his adventure with the young Prodigy of the crew, Wes takes a few precious moments in this reality to come in and say hello to his beloved mother Beverly Crusher (Gates McFadden). And, given when the animation series takes place in the major Star Trek timeline, Wes is able to meet his younger brother Jack before he retires to continue protecting the universe across space and time. During a conversation with Collider's Maggie Lovitt, the Hagemans revealed how they were able to pull off that sweet family reunion and what it meant for Wesley to be such a big part of Season 2. Dan Hageman said:

“We were talking to Terry [Matalas] and talk about it. We were trying to find out how old Jack was at the time. We were trying to figure out where we were because we knew we wanted Wesley to end up with his mom. That was the thing, where it would be kind of weird if she didn't say, like, “Oh, you have a brother there, Wesley.” So, luckily, we were in the right place at the right time, and it all worked out.”

Kevin Hageman stepped in to point out that there was a lot of synergy between the Prodigy i Picard teams, as the live-action series also made sure to ditch Wesley's Season 2 cameo with them. “Even the team Picard we felt we were really going to use Wesley, and so they kindly called and said, “We were also hoping to do a little cameo for him.” what do you do with it So we were in sync,” she explained. “And I'm so proud and so happy now that the world can see that we're bringing Wesley back.

“It was a wonderful bit of collaboration. They originally reached out to get a sense of where Beverly was in her life at that particular time, knowing we were about to feature her in a big way. They said they wanted the scene to include Wesley, which was such a lovely idea.
And I said, well, you know what's really interesting is you have the opportunity to do what we can't do right now, which is for Wesley to meet his little brother.
I'm so grateful they included it.”

Wheaton previously explained why it's so hard for Wes to visit Beverly and Jack, but we're so glad that Prodigy he was able to find a way for all the Shredders to spend some time together.
