The Real Housewives of Potomac The star, who split from Mia last year after 11 years of marriage, spoke emotionally about living with the disorder, which causes manic and depressive episodes that often require medical treatment, during the third part of the reunion from the eighth season of the Bravo series.
“Bipolar, in and of itself, makes your mind really work in reverse,” the 71-year-old shared on the April 14 episode. “Your mind tricks you into saying, 'You're normal, everyone else is slow.'
Although he noted how his struggles with bipolar 1 included episodes where his behavior became unbalanced. However, she explained that only “the people around me”, including Mia, noticed the mood swings while she was unaware of her symptoms.
“Things got so bad and so low for me,” he added, “that I went to the hospital and checked myself in.”
Gordon, with whom they share a son Jeremiah8 and daughter Juliana6 with Mia, was officially diagnosed more than two years ago, though he now admits he's been struggling with bipolar symptoms since his early 20s.
