A coalition of powerful thoroughbred racing identities has indicated it could try to bring the turf club's board of directors to book, saying it does not trust the organization's senior management to allow members final say on the deal to sell Rosehill.
The move pits some of racing's most influential figures against one another, including Racing NSW chief executive Peter V'landys and champion trainer Gai Waterhouse.
There is a newly formed group Save Rosehill, which argues there is a “lack of transparency” for members of the turf club about the planned redevelopment. However, the ATC has dismissed these concerns and stressed that all members would have a vote on the plan.
A coalition and cross-bench parliamentary inquiry into the proposal also begins on Friday.
Committee chair Liberal MP Scott Farlow said the inquiry would “investigate the NSW Government's involvement before the unsolicited proposal is made”.
“In addition, it will consider the role of the proposal in meeting housing targets, its impact on the cost and delivery of Sydney Metro and potential impacts on parks in western Sydney “, he said.
Farlow said the inquiry would also consider “the effects of the proposal on the racing industry and animal welfare”.
