A wastewater spill Wednesday that leaked some 70,000 gallons into a neighborhood ravine leading to Lake Waco did not reach the lake, city officials said.

Water officials were notified of the spill on Landon Branch after receiving complaints of a sewer smell from neighbors, according to a city news release. Water utilities staff investigated and discovered a broken wastewater pipe in a ravine, about 500 feet north of the city’s Landon Branch Wastewater Lift Station.

The release says the overflow extended 1,000 feet from the broken pipe down a dry streambed, from around the 4100 block of Evergreen Drive to the 3700 block of Willow Bend Circle. The release says the spill was contained to the area and no wastewater spilled into Lake Waco.

Following the repair, the area was sanitized, the release says.
