Statement from Francis Ngannou on Fatal Cameroon Accident

MMA fighter Francis Ngannou has issued a statement regarding his involvement in a tragic motorcycle accident in his home country of Cameroon. The incident, which occurred recently, resulted in the death of a 17-year-old girl who sustained severe injuries.

The accident reportedly took place over Easter weekend in the Omnisports district of Yaounde, Cameroon. While precise details surrounding the collision have not yet been fully disclosed, reports indicate Ngannou was driving a motorcycle that collided with the young woman. Following the crash, the victim suffered injuries to her arm and leg. Ngannou reportedly transported her to a local medical facility for treatment.

Tragically, despite efforts to save her life, the young woman passed away at Yaounde General Hospital.

In a statement shared with TMZ Sports, Ngannou expressed his profound grief and support for the victim`s family.

“From the very beginning, I have been by the family’s side, offering support, comfort, and deepest condolences during this time,” Ngannou stated. “I’ve met with them privately to share in their grief, and I will continue to stand with them every step of the way.”

He added, “I carry their pain with me, and my unwavering thoughts and support remain with them as they face this heartbreaking loss.”

Authorities in Cameroon are currently conducting an investigation into the circumstances of the accident.

Ngannou, aged 38, most recently competed in MMA in October, marking his PFL debut with a dominant first-round victory over Renan Ferreira. This fight was his first in MMA in more than two years.

Prior to returning to the MMA cage, Ngannou had transitioned to boxing, participating in high-profile bouts against Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua following his departure from the UFC as a free agent.

This tragedy follows another deeply personal loss for the former UFC heavyweight champion, who revealed in April 2024 that his 15-month-old son, Kobe, had died suddenly.
