Super Size Me’s Morgan Spurlock Dead at 53 After Cancer Battle

Two decades after the release of his documentary Super Size Medirector Morgan Spurlock died of complications from cancer.

The filmmaker's family confirmed that he died in New York on May 23 after a private health battle. He was 53 years old.

“It was a sad day as we said goodbye to my brother Morgan,” his brother and frequent collaborator. Craig Spurlock he said in a statement obtained by NBC News on May 24. “Morgan gave so much through her art, ideas and generosity.”

“The world has lost a true creative genius and a special man,” he continued. “I'm very proud to have worked with him.”

Morgan rose to prominence after its May 2004 release Super Size Me, in which she chronicled her health journey while eating McDonald's food for a month. The project, which highlights concerns about the fast food industry, earned an Oscar nomination for Best Documentary Feature and was later followed up by 2017. Super Size Me 2: Holy Chicken!.
