“And what if the Jedi find out how you created them?”
We knew it the acolytewhich takes place more than a century before The Phantom Menace, would show the early days of the Sith plan to destroy the Jedi. But the third episode of the series brought up an unexpected and troubling connection to Darth Vader and the Skywalker saga. Like Anakin, the acolyteThe twins of Mae and Osha have no father because they are children of the Force a la War of the galaxies universe While it's unclear what this means for the Power, it's a dark omen for the role they could play in bringing darkness to the galaxy far, far away. It's also a sign that the Jedi helped create their own destroyer.
“Who is his father?”
“There was no father. I carried him, gave birth to him, raised him. I can't explain what happened.”
Shmi Skywalker told Qui-Gon Jinn that his son Anakin was a miraculous conception. War of the galaxies Since then, the comics have expanded on the story surrounding the birth of the Chosen One The Phantom Menace. His creation is canonically more sinister and less magical from what is seen in the film. Palpatine is responsible for Anakin's virgin birth. He used dark side powers to manipulate the midi-chlorians in Shmi's womb. Even with this revelation, however, Anakin is very much War of the galaxies existence remains rooted in the Force itself. He is a literal child of the Force. He also grew to kill countless beings.
“You and your sister are special, Osha. I want you to stay special.”
Now, long before Shmi gives birth to Anakin, Star Wars: The Acolyte he has presented two more like him. The twins Osha and Mae were conceived in a similar way, possibly identical to Anakin. Mother Aniseia, the witch some accuse of using black magiche created his twins through the Thread, his name for the Force.
“They have no father.” Unlike Shmi and Anakin, however, the acolytes Mother Koril carried the twins to term. Why did mother Anisea do this? The program suggested that the marginalized coven forced into hiding had been unable to grow its ranks in any other way. The girls are a “miracle” that offers hope to the group. But it is still unclear exactly what Mother Aniseya was trying to create in terms of her power. No matter their intentions, however, like Anakin, capable of both light and dark, the two girls seem to represent both sides of the Force. And if you know War of the galaxies tradition, you know why it is so dangerous to break up a powerful duo like this.
“Ascension is walking through fear. It's about sacrificing a part of yourself.”
During the Ascension, two celestial bodies above Brendok, one red and the other blue, converged in the sky. Only the two sisters who wanted to ascend together did not converge. Mae, so full of anger and already capable of hurting others, passed. The reluctant Osha didn't even get a chance to reject her mother, however, because the Jedi showed up and stopped the event. That Jedi disruption, rooted in Jedi arrogance and the desire to control a Force that belongs to all living beings, produced the very danger they hoped to avoid in the first place.
The Jedi did not want unauthorized people using the Force/The Thread, especially witches who were thought to be tapping into their power from the dark side. But Mae and Osha seem to be two parts of the same whole ( maybe even a Day of the Force). They are a living, natural balance of the very Force that created them. And very bad things happen when the Force is out of balance.
Without their other half, every girl was lost. Mae was lost to the dark side, while Osha gave up on the light side. The separation of the two led Mae to embrace her natural darker nature that we saw on screen at the beginning of the episode. Meanwhile, taking eight-year-old Osha away from her protective and adoring sister led to many losses. This experience left Osha with lifelong scars from which she has yet to heal. They stopped him from becoming a Jedi. Jedi meddling in Mae and Osha's lives caused the twins' entire brood to die. this the acolyte The occurrence mirrors how the Jedi taking a young, scared Anakin from his mother caused all those Tusken raiders to die. And the young people Alderaan…
Anakin's fear, hatred, and anger caused untold suffering. The suffering was only able to stop when a family member showed Anakin that there was another way, just as Osha could have shown Mae. the acolyte. Instead, they are both angry with each other. For Osha this has meant walking away from everything she wanted. For Mae, it has caused anger. This anger has led to hatred. This hatred… we know where it leads us, both now and in the future of the galaxy.
By creating two girls with the Force, Mother Aniseya may have been trying to embrace her coven's mantra that the power of two doesn't just beat the power of one, it gives you the power of many. If nothing else, she recognized that her daughters were stronger together, not because they both had flaws, but because they balanced each other out. Only, their girls never had the chance to grow up together or ascend together because the Jedi believed they knew better and only they had the right to use the Force.
This arrogance pushed Mae follow a Sith leader who we know will eventually help overthrow the Jedi. Osha and Mae's story, a story of the unbalanced Force, will make Palpatine's rise possible one day. This means that the Jedi will have created their own destroyer the acolytejust like they did when they took Anakin Skywalker from his mother without caring what that would mean.
The Jedi believed that they, and they alone, had the right to use the Force. But the children of the Force continue to show why this attitude is anything but balanced.
