‘The Silence of the Lambs’ Gets 4K Blu-ray Ahead of Spooky Season

When it comes to serial killer horror thrillers, the jewel in the crown for many fans of the genre is The silence of the lambs. The 1991 film directed by Jonathan Demme and starring Jodie Foster i Anthony Hopkins it's in a class of its own with a dense atmosphere that will serve for dinner if you're not too careful. Now, Arrow Video has just announced that they will be donating Silence of the lambs a new 4K Blu-ray release this summer.

The 4K edition will be presented in a beautiful box case that includes one of the original posters of Foster's FBI agent thriller Clarice Starling with a killer moth in her mouth. One of the many deadly animal themes in the film. The physical stuff included are six postcard-sized lobby cards, a double-sided poster, and an illustrated collector's booklet featuring new work by Alexandra West, Josh Nelson, Sam Moore, and Alexandra Heller-Nicholas.. The case for the 4K will also be reversible.

As for the special features, there will be a new audio commentary by critics Elizabeth Purchell and Caden Mark Gardner and a newly restored soundtrack together with all previously published additional material carried over from other editions. This will be a UK only release as another boutique label, Kino Lorber, launched Silence of the lambs in 4K nationally a few years ago. However, all 4K releases are free if you want to pick up this classic for the first time in the format or are just a fan of the film.

'The silence of the lambs' is atmospheric perfection

while Silence of the lambs Probably not the first film you think of when horror is brought up in conversation, it has stood the test of time thanks to its brilliantly terrifying tension. What begins as a race for a young FBI agent to find the serial killer known as “Buffalo Bill” quickly turns into a bloody mind game of chess when Foster's Starling enlists the help of a killer serially imprisoned, Hannibal Lecter., played by Hopkins. This battle is one of the scariest ever made for cinema and was the last true horror film to win the top prize, Best Picture, at the Oscars. It also gave Foster and Hopkins well-deserved Oscars for their respective efforts. While some of the plot points surrounding the character of Buffalo Bill haven't aged so well in the last 30 years and there have been other great films in this subgenre such as Se7en since, Silence of the lambsComplex themes remain the gold standard of uncomfortable horror.

The silence of the lambs is currently streaming on MGM+. Horror fans can also pre-order the 4K edition from Arrow Video on their website. They are also offering a new Blu-ray edition and a 4K Arrow Shop exclusive with different sleeve and sleeve designs.. These new editions are released on August 26, 2024. Just in time for our next Halloween horror movie marathon.
