As a preview to the upcoming ranking of the world's 50 best restaurants, which will be announced in Las Vegas on June 5, the organizers of the prestigious competition have announced the places ranked 51 to 100 in this year's expanded list of 50 in the world. The best restaurants.

This runner-up ranking is the first release of this year's iteration of the global competition and includes establishments from 23 destinations worldwide, including 12 new entries in 11 cities spanning from Berlin and Mumbai to Seoul, Sydney, Bogotá and beyond.

Topping the new and expanded ranking — and despite several of its iconic dining establishments dropping off the list — is Europe with 23 restaurants with two Italians at the top of the list: La Calandre in Rubano (No. 51) and the new Atelier. Moessmer in Brunico (#52).

Five other new European entries join Atelier Moessmer: Coda, #62 in Berlin; Bozar, #63 in Brussels; Le Doyenné, #70 in Saint-Vrain; Restaurant Jan, #84 in Munich and Mountain, #94 in London.

France and the United Kingdom lead the European list with four restaurants each. France has Flocons de Sel, #76 in Megève; La Grenouillère, #77 in La Madelaine-sous-Montreuil; Alléno Paris Au Pavillon Ledoyen, #79 in Paris and Ceto, #85 in Roquebrune-Cap-Martin.

The UK chart includes four in London: Brat, #65; The Clove Club, #80; Lyle, number 87; and Clare Smyth's Core, #97.

Germany placed four on the list, including Ernst, number 75 in Berlin and Tantris, number 88 in Munich. Spain follows with three: Enigma, #59 in Barcelona, ​​Aponiente, #72 in El Puerto de Santa María and Mugaritz, #81 in Sant Sebastià.

Belgian Willem Hiele, in Oudenburg, returns to number 83; Denmark has Kadeau, number 54 in Copenhagen and Turkey has Neolokal, number 91 in Istanbul.

The USA, the juries and the downgrades

North America has two new entries: Smyth in Chicago at No. 90 and Fauna in Valle de Guadalupe, Mexico at No. 100. There are two more restaurants in Mexico: Alcalde de Guadalajara at No. 67 and Sud 777 in Ciudad de Mexico at number 82.

In the United States, New York's Le Bernadin is at number 71 and Cosme (formerly the top-ranked restaurant in America), also in New York, is at number 99.

Asia has 13 entries, South America five, while the Middle East, Africa and Oceania each have one.

A number of restaurants have fallen in the rankings, including seven that appeared in the top 50 last year: Mugaritz in Spain was number 31 and now sits at number 81, while London's Clove Club dropped from number 38 to number 80 and Le Bernardin at position 81. New York from #44 to #71.

Another surprise is the downgrade of chef Massimiliano Alajmo's Italian restaurant Le Calandre from last year's No. 41 to No. 51 now.

Forbes India notes that France's Le Doyenné de Saint-Vrain, an “unpretentious restaurant” listed at No. 70, “is higher than chef Emmanuel Renaut's Flocons de Sel at No. 76, with three Michelin stars, or Grenouillère with two chef Alexandre Gauthier's stars at La Madelaine-sous-Montreuil (No. 77), currently closed due to flooding, and even above Yannick's prestigious three-star Pavillon Ledoyen Alléno at No. 79”.

A panel of 1,080 independent and gender-balanced food experts ranging from food journalists and world-renowned chefs to street foodies decide the rankings based on strict rules that include, among others, having eaten in the establishment during the previous 19. months to be able to vote and abstain if they have a financial interest in any of them.
