In the upcoming hour-long series finale, the show will revisit and wrap up the story as George's funeral takes place, and the show moves on to wrap up other storylines. Young Sheldonshowrunner of, Steve Hollandhe emphasized the importance of giving a funny ending to the story while talking Weekly entertainment. He revealed that they didn't want George's death to overshadow the series finale and leave a bad taste in the viewer's mouth.

The end of the series 'Young Sheldon' will be well balanced

That doesn't mean there won't be tears when the series finale begins with the episode “Funeral.” Holland talked about how the episode brought many tears from the writers' room to the set when the cast was filming and the editing room as they watched it on repeat, saying:

“The funeral scenes were the most difficult [to film]. There were many tears in the room writing this. There were a lot of tears on set while shooting it. There have been many tears in editing, watching the funeral over and over again. I was so proud of the scripts, but watching this cast perform them was breathtaking and heartbreaking. I hope the cast is recognized for this; I mean, I think they've been great for seven years, but what they do in these last two episodes is phenomenal.”

Jim Parsons i Mayim Bialik are set to reprise their roles in the series finale, and Parsons echoed Holland's sentiments about the series finale, saying:

“I read the script not knowing what's going to come of this ending. I think it's … I just think it's beautiful. I think it's poignant, but I think it stays true to its comedy. It's very funny.”

In addition to George's story, the series finale will send Sheldon off to college, set the stage for Mandy and Georgie's spin-off, and set the course for the rest of the characters.
