Truecaller Collaborates With Microsoft to Integrate Personal Voice With AI Assistant: How to Set It

Technology

Truecaller is partnering with Microsoft to significantly upgrade its AI assistant powered by artificial intelligence (AI). As part of this partnership, the caller ID app will leverage the Microsoft Azure AI Speech feature called Personal Voice. This will integrate with the AI Assistant to give a voice replica of the user when the AI views a call or answers on the user's behalf. The feature is rolling out starting today and will initially be available in select countries. The company has confirmed that the feature will be expanded to more countries soon.

Making the announcement via a community post, Truecaller said: “With the addition of Microsoft's Personal Voice, Truecaller Assistant users can now create a fully digital version of their own voice for use in of the Assistant”. Notably, the company first introduced the AI Assistant in September 2022. The voice-based chatbot offers multiple functionalities, including screening calls, answering calls, and even taking messages on behalf of the user. You can also record calls that can be listened to later, like a voicemail.

While this is a useful feature, Truecaller also offers a limited number of voices that the AI Assistant could use. With this, when someone calls, they will hear one of these chosen voices before the call is selected by the user. However, hearing a stranger's voice had the potential to catch the caller off guard. The app maker is solving this problem by introducing Personal Voice, which will allow people to use their own voice for the AI Assistant.

This feature has started rolling out to Truecaller Premium users in the US, Canada, Australia, South Africa, India, Sweden and Chile. It will soon expand to other regions, the company said.
