Paddy Pimblett`s convincing victory over Michael Chandler at UFC 314 in April didn`t impress everyone equally. `The Baddy` secured a third-round TKO, marking his seventh consecutive win in the UFC and propelling him to No. 8 in the lightweight rankings.
While many previously skeptical fans are now reconsidering Pimblett`s title potential, a significant number still harbor doubts about his elite status.
Grant Dawson`s Assessment of Paddy Pimblett After the Chandler Fight
Speaking in a recent interview with Inside Fighting, fellow lightweight contender Grant Dawson shared his thoughts on Pimblett`s performance in Miami.
Dawson, who has previously criticized Pimblett, admitted his opinion shifted somewhat after UFC 314. However, the American Top Team fighter maintained that Pimblett is still not as good as the public perceives him to be.
“I think he’s gotten better. I think he’s gotten a lot better,” Dawson said of Pimblett. “I think he is better than most of the division thinks he is, but I think he’s way worse than the fans think he is.”
Michael Chandler`s Recent UFC Record Following the Pimblett Loss
Michael Chandler`s recent string of results has also drawn attention, particularly his position within the lightweight rankings. Despite his memorable debut knockout against Dan Hooker, `Iron Mike` holds a 2-5 record in the UFC, having lost his last three fights, including the one against Pimblett.
Although he narrowly missed out on the title against Charles Oliveira and faced delays waiting for a potential fight with Conor McGregor, leading to a stagnant period in his career, the 39-year-old hasn`t indicated any plans for retirement, suggesting he may still look to improve his UFC standing.
