UFC Vegas 107 is set to take place at the Apex facility this Saturday night.
However, the event faced significant disruptions during a notably dramatic and chaotic weigh-in, leading to several changes ahead of the May 31st date.
Weight misses and fight cancellations were the main talking points after fans had a week off from the leading MMA promotion.
Despite some concerns after missing the flyweight limit on the scales, Maycee Barber is still scheduled to compete in the main event.
Barber and her opponent, Erin Blanchfield, had already engaged in verbal sparring leading up to the fight, and this exchange intensified following the final weigh-in challenge.
Blanchfield and Barber`s Heated Exchange After Weigh-Ins
Leading up to the May 31st event, Erin Blanchfield questioned whether Maycee Barber would successfully make weight for their UFC Vegas 107 main event.
Barber dismissed Blanchfield`s comments as “dumb” during an appearance on The Ariel Helwani Show, explaining that her two previous fight withdrawals were due to significant issues.
Barber retaliated with her own criticism, labelling Blanchfield`s 7-1 Octagon record as a result of a “boring” and “terrible” fighting style.
While Barber appears set to fight, concerns arose when she stepped on the scales and missed the required weight by half a pound.
Blanchfield sought the final word before fight night, sharing a face-off video on Instagram with a caption referencing her earlier doubts and tagging Barber.
Her caption read, “Who’s the clown now.”
Barber responded on her own platform after the tense face-off between the two exciting 125-pound contenders, simply writing, “Still you.”
The Stakes Are High for Maycee Barber at UFC Vegas 107
UFC women’s flyweight champion Valentina Shevchenko currently has several potential opponents for her next fight.
Beyond a potential superfight with strawweight champion Zhang Weili, Natalia Silva recently solidified her position as a top contender with a dominant win over Alexa Grasso.
Both Erin Blanchfield and Maycee Barber need a significant victory at UFC Vegas 107 to make a compelling case for the next title shot against Shevchenko.
This pressure is particularly high on Barber, who must now overcome the negative perception from her weight miss while simultaneously positioning herself as a legitimate title challenger.
