WhatsApp for Android May Be Developing a New In-App Dialler for Calling Convenience

WhatsApp is said to be working on several new features for the Android platform. According to a feature tracker, one of the features introduced in the latest update of the WhatsApp beta app for Android is a new bookmark in the app. This feature is speculated to make WhatsApp calls convenient as it allows users to make calls directly from the app, without having to switch to the system dialer and save the contact on the Android smartphone.

According to the WABetaInfo feature tracker, the new in-app bookmark can appear as a floating action button (FAB) in the calls tab With it, users can take advantage of WhatsApp calls, even to numbers that are not saved on the smartphone. This feature is said to have been spotted in the beta version of the WhatsApp Android app Android 2.24.13.17.

Apart from calling, users may be able to save the bookmark contact to the smartphone's address book, either as a new contact or as an addition to an existing one. Additionally, there is also said to be a messaging option for those who initially wanted to call someone but changed their mind and now want to send them a WhatsApp message.

It is speculated that it also offers the functionality to check whether a particular number is registered on WhatsApp. The feature tracker suggested that the new in-app bookmark is available to select users enrolled in the Google Play Beta program as beta testers for the WhatsApp Android app.

Gadgets 360 staff members have not been able to test the availability of this feature.

New stickers

According to a report, WhatsApp also introduced new and more dynamic stickers. These decals are said to offer smoother movement, courtesy of the new compatible Lottie frame. It is reported to enable the development of more dynamic animations based on motion graphics design software such as Adobe After Effects, for native rendering on mobile devices.

The first sticker pack that officially supports this new framework is “I'm Just a Girl”, developed by BUCK, which is 228KB in size. This feature is rolling out to WhatsApp for Android and iOS users.
