This series was made in 2005, but is still a favorite among history buffs for its elaborate, expansive sets and accurate depiction of the time period. However, this was also its downfall as the show was canceled after only two seasons due to its high cost. If the show had gone on for a few more seasons, it had plans to cover the ascension of Jesus, so you can see this series as somewhat of a historical prequel to the events of The chosen one if you want more information about the Roman Empire at this time.
